Alwar Popularly known as 'The Land of Tigers', Alwar lies on the fringes of the Aravalli Range in eastern Rajasthan. This city swank of a noble past, which is further magnify by the story of valor and sacrifice of its people in the days of yore. Formerly known as Mewar, Alwar was a very important Rajput state that came under Mughal curb in the 13th century. Maharana Pratap Singh, a Rajput ruler won it back in the 18th century and formed a state of his own. The major tourist attractions of Alwar are the Bala Quila and the City Palace Complex or Vinay Vilas Mahal. You can also visit the lake, which is next to the City Palace and is also a favorite among the visitors. If you wish to see the antiques and the residue of the former age then you can head to the Government Museum, which is located in the City Palace Complex. Alwar is also known for the famous Sariska Tiger Reserve, which is a place you must visit if you travel to Alwar. However, the best time to travel to Alwar is from September to March. Alwar is about 170 Kms south of Delhi lies Alwar, in the state of Rajasthan. It is about 150 Kms from Jaipur, the capital city.
Tourist Destination in Alwar:
City Palace, Alwar, was set up by Raja Bakhtayar Singh in 1793 A.D. It is a perfect blend of Indo Islamic architecture. This magnificent structure has a central bailey has a lotus flower base constructed in marble.
Siliserh Lake & Palace:
It offers a charming scenery, the twinkling wave, covering 10.5 sq. km is surrounded by thick wooded hills with beautiful chhatris on the dike. It was once a source of Alwar's water supply.
This multipurpose museum was founded way back in the year 1908. For nearly a century now it has been adding on to its rich depository.
Sariska Tiger Reserve:
The Sariska Tiger Reserve, established in 1955 is home to the tiger, nilgai (blue bull), cheetal, sambhar, four horned deer and the wild boar. Sprawled over a forest area of nearly 800 km, this reserve comes under the Project Tiger. A number of ruined ancient temples can be seen inside the forest reserve. An old palace inside the park has now been converted into a hotel. This is one of the few forest reserves where you can even explore the forest at night.
Bala Quila (the fort):
This huge fort is famous for its history, which predates the Moghul rulers. It runs 5 km from north to south, and nearly 2 km from east to west standing 304 meter above the city. The fort is circumscribed with several gates a few of which are named after various personalities e.g. Jai Pol, Laxman Pol, and Suraj Pol.
Vinay Vilas Palace:
This garden palace was once the habitation of Maharaja Vinay Singh. Now a college is being run in this splendid building. The Garden of this palace and company garden was watered by Siliserh Lake through a long aqueduct.
